Why Specific Adjustments are Key to Chiropractic Care

Specific Adjustments are Key
The reason we perform highly specific adjustments to your spine is fundamentally rooted in our goal to optimize the functioning of your nervous system. To illustrate this concept, I often use the analogy of a circuit breaker. Imagine that you are in your home and suddenly notice that the lights in a particular room have gone out. Your first instinct is likely to head to the circuit breaker box. Inside, you will find a series of switches, each corresponding to different areas of your home’s electrical system. Typically, there is one breaker that has been tripped or switched off, interrupting the flow of electricity to that specific part of your house. What is your next step in addressing this issue? You simply flip that one breaker switch back to the 'on' position. This action is straightforward and targeted, aimed solely at resolving the issue at hand. You do not go through the entire panel and start toggling the other breakers on and off without reason; that would be unnecessary and could potentially create more confusion or problems.
Innate Intelligence
This principle applies not only to the electrical system of your home but, more importantly, to the intricate and vital system of innate intelligence that governs your body. Just as with the circuit breakers, where only one switch needs attention, our approach to spinal adjustments focuses on being precise and deliberate. In our office, we identify and address only the specific areas of subluxation or misalignment/dysfunction that may be causing stress or interference within your nervous system. By concentrating on these targeted adjustments, we strive to minimize any additional stress that could further complicate the healing process.
Our Philosophy and Research-Based Practices
Our philosophy at Better Life Chiropractic and Wellness is rooted in the belief that the body has an incredible capacity for self-healing and self-regulation when given the right conditions. Therefore, by being meticulous and specific in our adjustments, we facilitate an environment where your body can heal effectively and efficiently, allowing your nervous system to function optimally. This careful approach ensures that we are not inadvertently creating more issues or stress within the system, but rather supporting your body’s innate ability to restore balance and health.
Furthermore, research shows that non-specific "adjustments" or manipulation of the spine in areas that are not subluxated or misaligned yields no reaction in the brain (Haavik, 2023). When we adjust specifically, we are actually activating the brain! How cool is that?
