Is your child a good candidate for chiropractic care?

October 26, 2017

By the age of five, the average child will have experienced over 2,000 falls, 10-percent of which would be considered serious. While some people brush this off as normal childhood accidents, chiropractors know that, over time, these often lead to more severe issues that take much more time to take care of later in life.

With more and more parents across the country taking their children and babies in for chiropractic care, there are still questions as to why they may need care, if it is safe for children, and what the benefits are. Despite some skepticism, a growing body of studies have shown that children under regular chiropractic care get less ear infections, have fewer asthma symptoms, less allergies, take fewer prescriptions, and require fewer medical visits.

Regardless of studies, Dr John and parents have seen the benefits over the past 14 years of being in practice. To answer the question above, the answer is ‘YES’....well, as long your child has a spine and nerve system! :)

If you like research, here are a few of the articles:

Ear infection Research

Researchers looked at 46 children under the age of 5 with ear infections. 93% recovered within 10 days of receiving chiropractic care (J Manipulative Physiol Ther 199;169-77).  Another study investigated children with recurring ear infections who failed to recover after medical treatment. All the children improved after no more than five visits to their chiropractor (J Clin Chir Ped 1996; 1:66). An additional study found that adjustments "may prevent or decrease surgical intervention or antibiotic overuse" (Arch Pediatr Adolesc Med 2003;157:861-6).

Colic Research

Investigators evaluated 316 babies with colic and found that 94% benefited from chiropractic care (J Manipulative Physiol Ther 1989;12). In a survey of 132 parents of infants suffering from colic, 91% reported improvement after receiving chiropractic care (Eur J Chiropr 1985; 33:264-5).

Asthma Research

Researchers evaluated 81 children with asthma. After 2 months of chiropractic care, 90% showed significant improvement in quality of life (J Vertebral Sublux Res 1997; 1:41-8).  Another study looked at 36 patients ages 6-17 with mild to moderate asthma. After three months of chiropractic care, severity decreased 39%.  Use of bronchodilators dropped 20% and the quality of life increased 18% (J Manipulative Physiol Ther 2001;24:369-77).
